Navroz (or Nowruz) has been celebrated for thousands of years by people of diverse ethnic communities and religious backgrounds. It is a secular holiday to celebrate spring and also the new year of many who observe the holiday.

It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical Northward equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. The moment the sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year and families gather together to observe the rituals. On this day, it is custom to greet one another to rejoice this holiday by saying "Navroz Mubarak", meaning a happy and prosperous New Year.
